Changes of circumstances, such as illness, job loss, delay in benefit payments and relationship breakdown, can all trigger food poverty. The need can be urgent and immediate, particularly where children are involved. Consequently, we try to help in two ways at St. Mary’s:
A shopping trolley is kept in church for members of the congregation and the wider village community to donate items of food. The food collected is offered up for blessing during the 10.30am service on the first Sunday of each month and is then delivered to the Grantham Food Bank where it is distributed to those in need. We are also registered as voucher holders to authorise those we believe to be in urgent need to collect emergency food from the Food Bank. St Mary’s has taken the lead in encouraging other local agencies to register as vouchers holders .
