A message from The Chair:

It seems strange writing to you in the middle of the Coronavirus Pandemic.  Unfortunately, it does not seem to be abating.  Both myself and the Friends of St. Mary’s Committee hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe.  I would like to take this opportunity of thanking the Friends of St. Mary’s members who have continued to support us by renewing your membership we greatly appreciate it.  Like all charities The Friends of St. Mary’s are now exception to the effects that this virus has had on our fund raising and these funds have made a huge difference to us.  Also, thanks to those who have sent donations to Friends.   Friends of St. Mary’s is open to all to join  – you do not have to worship at St. Mary’s or indeed go to church.  We are here to preserve our historic grade 1 listed village church; it belongs to the whole village not just to church goers. ‘Friends’ operates independently to the Parochial Church Council, providing support of funding for important projects such as repairing the tiles in church, repairing the boiler, the flagstone project – in the pipeline at the moment (pardon the pun!) is the organ which needs a full overhaul and repair, repairs to the Church Steeple, and other projects thrown up by the Quinquennial inspection.   At the moment it is difficult to assess which is the most urgent with the virus continuing to rage.

Unfortunately, we are not able to have our usual Quiz at the Bowls Club in February or March. Instead, John Daybell has compiled a quiz for us which is accessible through the Village Voice Website Link or on our Facebook Page or here . Thank you John for your hard work, hopefully not too long before we can all be together again at the Bowls Club.   If you do not have a computer then the question sheet is available from me – Frances Stapleton – just give me a ring (01949 843427) , and I will make sure you have a copy dropped off.   The Quiz is open for  until 1st April and your answers should be submitted to me at:   Entry is Free.  There will be a prize for the winning score. The very generous prize of a Voucher for Paul’s Restaurant has   been donated to The Friends of St. Marys by a supporter of Friends. We thank them for their generosity.  In the event of a tie then the names will put into a hat and a winning ticket drawn out.

We are in the process of planning our AGM which will be sometime in March – I will let you have details later.

Once again thank you for your continued support.  Please stay safe.

Best wishes,

Frances Stapleton – Acting Chair/Events Co-ordinator Friends of St. Mary’s Church, Bottesford.
